Car dealers do exactly what their title suggests - deal with selling cars. Despite many car dealers/salesmen having untarnished reputations and being very easy to get along with however, they can sometimes have a black mark against their name when people ask what profession they are in. This is because many people assume that all car dealers only want to make a sale and a profit. Even though some car dealers may have given you a bad experience; it is fair to say that no-one is the same and shouldn't be judged as so. Car dealers have to know a lot about the trade that they are in and have to be extremely good communicators too.
Because there are so many different cars these days, car dealers have to know an awful lot about the many types and manufacturers on the market. In many instances though, you will find that smaller, independent car dealers know a lot more about a wide range of cars as opposed to big name dealers that only deal with one manufacturer and have brand new motors at relatively high prices. In many instances though, if you do your own research you will be able to prevent yourself from being drawn in by a lot of 'salesmen talk'. Online forums are a great way to get viewpoints before you buy and they prove to be a god-send as you are able to find out all the advantages and disadvantages of each motor from the people that really matter such as former owners that can tell it how it is.
